RECREATIONAL SERIES
June 23-July 23, 2008


Recreational Series

The Salt Lake Metro Recreational Series League tennis ran June 23- July 23, 2008.  33 Teams participated with a total of 215 players.  Teams were from Grantsville, Bountiful, Salt Lake City, Kearns, South Jordan, Sandy & Cottonwood Heights.  Six matches were played during this five weeks period at the various sites.  Divisions were gender only and included ages 12, 14 & 18 Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced players.  Several facilities also included QuickStart tennis for boys and girls 10 and under as well as 8 and under on 60' and 36' courts.  The QuickStart format for 10 and under uses smaller racquets and low compression balls.  8 and under uses smaller racquets and large foam balls.  At the conclusion of the Recreational Series all participants and their families were given discount tickets to Lagoon and enjoyed the "Clearwater Terrace" which was reserved for everyone to bring picnics.

Top winning teams from each division were invited to play in the Recreation Series District Playoffs held July 30-31 @ Liberty Park.

Also participating in their own Recreational Series were Clearfield Recreational Tennis League, Wasatch Front Tennis League (players from Ogden/Roy/Morgan) and Murray City League.  Clearfield Recreational Tennis League had 6 teams, 33 players.  Wasatch Front Tennis League had 14 teams, 104 players and Murray City Tennis League was made up of 5 teams, 36 players.   The top teams from each division participated in the District Playoff Tournament.

Championship Series
This years Championship Series Area Competition had teams from as far away as Tooele and Brigham City  to teams right here in the Salt Lake Valley from Kearns Oquirrh Park, South Jordan and Liberty Park.  These five teams made up the Intermediate division with a total of 56 players.  The Advanced division had 36 players from Jordan High School, Kearns Oqurrh Park, Tooele and two North Canyon teams.
