    UTAH JUNIOR TENNIS FOUNDATION INC.

This tax-exempt 501(c)3 non-profit organization established in 1987, works closely with the Utah Tennis Association to provide limited travel assistance for junior players who might not otherwise be able to participate in sectional and national tournaments. The Foundation also offers a Junior Assistance Program, which covers USTA memberships and local tournament entry fees to juniors whose families cannot afford the cost of competitive tennis. Through an arrangement with local indoor tennis clubs, there is also a Scholarship Program available, in which clubs waive one-third of the cost of their regular winter development programs, the Foundation pays one-third, and the junior’s family pays one-third. This program is provided for junior players who are not otherwise able to be involved in such programs or those who do not have access to an indoor facility in the winter. These children generally come from various public parks programs. The foundation also focuses on diverse non-traditional communities and works with the Youth Tennis Foundation of Utah to provide community outreach and tennis playing opportunities to special populations, kids at risk and underserved youth in the community.

A major source of funding for the Foundation is the Jan Dowse Memorial Tee it Up Junior Tennis Fundraiser. This event is organized by the Marketing & Fundraising Committee along with the help of Fritz Heinecke, Adult League Coordinator and Linda Vincent, Executive Director. The 14th Annual event was held at the Cottonwood Country Club and included a Golf Tournament, Drawing for Prizes, Including a Trip to the USOPEN, Silent Auction and BBQ and special guest & MC Gordon Monson. The fundraiser also included special recognition and awards for Boys & Girls High School Teams and players for their achievements during the 06/07 High School Season. The event raised $16,950 for the Utah Junior Tennis Foundation. A special thanks to Dan Johnson and CHEVRON for the generous donation and sponsorship of the event and to Mike Dowse, SUUNTO and the Dowse Family for their continued help and support of this event. A special thanks also goes to Fritz Heinecke for all his hard work, the members of the Marketing & Fundraising Committee, the many generous donors and contributors to the silent auction, the golf and hole sponsors, and to all those who attended and participated in this fun and worthwhile event. Due to the success of the 14th Annual Jan Dowse Junior Tennis Fundraiser, 100% of the dollars goes back to support junior tennis and is used to help directly benefit those juniors who participate in one of our organized Utah Tennis sponsored junior excellence programs in the coming year, as well as programs that introduce tennis to youth from diverse multi-cultural backgrounds in our community.

The David L. Freed Family and the Youth Tennis Foundation of Utah again provided significant financial assistance to Utah Tennis and the Utah Junior Tennis Foundation. The Youth Tennis Foundation also contributed funds for equipment and racquets for the USTA Schools Tennis Programs, USTA Junior Team Tennis, Girls’ High School Tennis Camp, the Boys’ High School Tennis Camp and the USTA Competitive Training Center Training Camp at the new Ivoryridge Tennis & Swim Club in Lehi and the Team Utah Tennis Clay Court Tennis Camp at Salt Lake Tennis Club. The Youth Tennis Foundation also provided additional funding for juniors who traveled out-of-state to compete in sectional and national tournaments. In 2008, Utah Tennis will again be seeking support and funding from the Foundation trustees to support youth tennis and new programs and initiatives that will support our goal to grow the game of tennis at the grass roots, as well as give our top juniors additional competitive tennis opportunities.
