 New Player Adult 2.5 Incentives
The Intermountain Section and the USPTA partnered to provide funding and incentives to USPTA Pros who fielded new 2.5 teams in the 2007 USTA Adult Summer League. The Utah Tennis Association took it a step further by offering the incentive to Non-USPTA Pros and Captains who fielded new 2.5, 5.0 teams in the USTA Adult League, and who fielded new teams in the USTA Senior and Super Senior Leagues. A total of $1,585.00 incentives were paid out, and the return was estimated at $2656.00 from new USTA Memberships, new league registration and match fees, which would not have been realized without the initiative.

Captain Zero Default Incentives
In 2007, the Utah District also paid out over $8,000.00 in incentives to those league captains who had “zero defaults” in the course of their leagues. This incentive has gone a long way in reducing the amount of revenue lost due to defaults, all the while improving the quality of league play. Our goal is to have zero defaults in all of our leagues and to have “ALL” captains join in this incentive program. In invitation to participate in this reward program will be placed in all league captains packets for each league in 2008

St. George Area Leagues
Mary McCarthy, Local League Coordinator in the St. George area did a great job in 2007. St. George fielded 13 teams/116 players in 2007! This represents a 26% increase in participation! Leagues played were:
Tri-Level League
Spring 3.5W Local League

4.0W USTA Adult League
3.5M USTA Senior League (with one team from Mesquite, NV.!)
The 4.0W All Stars-Mary McCarthy, Capt. Advanced and participated at the Utah District Championships in August.  Unfortunately, Mary has resigned her position as league coordinator, and is just going to enjoy playing tennis in Dixie in 2008.

One Up/One Down League.
1up/1dn logoThis league was one of the bright spots in league tennis in 2007! Wheelchair tennis is one of the fastest growing wheelchair sports in the country. Rules are the same as able-bodied tennis, except that the chair player is permitted two bounces of the ball. As a follow-up to the very successful Sectional Wheelchair Tennis held in Salt Lake City at Liberty Park, the league provided additional playing opportunities and was offered for 5 weeks. There were a total of 24 total players signed up, 12 Wheelchair and 12 Able-body. A very special thanks to Mike Martines and Susan Daynes at Coach Mike’s Tennis Academy who served as the host site for the league and Salt Lake Swim & Tennis Club who hosted the closing social and pizza party. Also a special thanks to Chris Harris, Tennis Service Representative who helped organize and administer the league. Several of the Utah Tennis Association staff members played in the league, and can attest to just how much fun this is…and how good the chair players are at the game of tennis. Look for this league again in 2008, and sign up to play!

Locally Sponsored by The Utah Tennis Association, The Utah Wheelchair Association, Coach Mike’s Tennis Academy,  Rehabilitation Center at the University Health Care and TRAILS program.
