Junior Tournament Information

Additional non-sanctioned community TOURNAMENTS
|
Dear Players and Parents:
Recently there have been tournaments in the Utah District in which Sunday play was required. In these tournaments there were a substantial number of defaults by players on the Sunday of the tournament. The Utah Tennis Association recognizes and respects the right of individuals to choose whether they play on Sunday or not. To this end, the Utah Tennis Association makes a special effort to limit the number of tournaments that require Sunday play in order to give all players the opportunity to attain a District ranking and develop their games.
The USTA Regulations/Friend at Court states in USTA Regulation Part 3, I.E.4.a "A player shall not...enter a tournament (including mandatory consolation) knowing the player will not be able to finish the tournament." This is a courtesy to your opponent, other competitors, the tournament director and sponsors. The Sunday typically will be day of the finals and not only are the competitors looking forward to the match, so is the tournament director who wants to put on a quality event for the sponsor.
We hope that consideration can be exhibited on all sides of this issue. Utah Tennis will continue to offer the majority of tournaments with no Sunday play.
Sincerely, The Utah Tennis Association
