USA LEAGUE TENNIS INTERMOUNTAIN SECTION CHAMPIONS WILL COMPETE FOR NATIONAL TITLE
Salt Lake City, UT., Monday, August 23, 2004- Twelve teams from the USTA Intermountain Section will advance to the national championship round of the world's largest adult recreational tennis league by taking first place at the USA League Tennis presented by Lincoln Adult Sectional Championship. The event was held Aug. 20-22 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Utah is home to seven first and second place teams. The Utah Champions that will compete at the national level are:
Women's 5.0
Women's 3.0
Men's 2.5
Men's 4.5

        There are currently more than 530,000 participants in the USA League Tennis presented by Lincoln program.  Players are grouped into six different ability levels, from beginner (2.5) to advanced (5.0), based on the National Tennis Rating Program.  Play consists of both singles and doubles matches with the outcome based on team scoring.

        Lincoln is the presenting sponsor and official car of the USA League Tennis program.  Penn Racquet Sports is in its 17th year as the official ball of USA League Tennis.  The Citizen Watch Company celebrates its ninth year as a USTA Corporate Champion and sponsor of the USA League Tennis Program.

        The United States Tennis Association is the national governing body for the sport of tennis in the United States and is a non-profit organization with more than 660,000 members.  It owns and operates the US Open and selects the teams that compete in Davis Cup, Fed Cup and the Olympic and Paralympic Games. It invests all its resources to promote and develop the growth of tennis, from the grass roots to the professional levels.

        The USTA Intermountain Section, also called the Intermountain Tennis Association (ITA), is one of 17 sections of the USTA. The Intermountain Section, with more than 34,000 members in its six districts of Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Utah and Wyoming, uses its funds to train and encourage tennis players of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.
